Phoenix McKinney, APR and Rebeca Searcey outlined successful networking tips based upon the bestseller How to Work A Room by Susan RoAne at the Tampa Bay FPRA February program .

By introducing the 5-2-7 approach to the audience, McKinney and Searcey demonstrated that networking does not have to feel awkward and unnatural. The
5-2-7 solution for successful networking includes removing five common roadblocks (introductions, talking to strangers, waiting, he/she wants me, be safe/not sorry) that may hinder a person from putting his/her best effort forward. They also suggest adding two key personal ingredients, such as a technique or skill that applies to the individual and creating seven positive strategies that will enhance the overall networking experience.

TAMPA BAY WORKFORCE ALLIANCE
SHOWS OFF ITS NEWLY RENOVATED
STATE-OF-THE-ART CAREER CENTER

On January 26th, Tampa Bay WorkForce Alliance (TBWA) hosted an open house in celebration of the 10 month renovation of its WorkForce Tampa Career Center, located at Florida Avenue and Busch Boulevard. Renovations included all areas of the center such as the resource center which is used by job candidates in their job search. A completely new business services center, used by employers to conduct individual or mass recruitment events, and a wireless cyber café are also among the new features of the career center.

More than 200 people attended the festivities, which featured a jazz combo from nearby Blake High School for the Performing Arts and King High School’s NJROTC color guard. Attendees included board members, partners, media representatives, TBWA staff and company representatives from around the Tampa Bay area.

Temple Terrace Mayor Joe Affronti was in attendance and said TBWA is, “Tampa Bay's best kept secret” praising it for the services provided to area businesses. (Continued on Page 3)
