Public Information Specialist, Pinellas County Government

POSITION TITLE: Public Information Specialist

BRIEF DESCRIPTION: Pinellas County is seeking a highly-motivated and creative Public Information Specialist to strategically plan and disseminate information to our residents.

JOB DUTIES include: writing and editing accurate communications pieces; working with county departments on public information initiatives; participating in public outreach activities; and liaising with media partners, among others. This position will be part of a public information team that also responds to Emergency Operations Center activations as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

6 years in professional public relations, journalism, communications, public administration, or related field; or
Associate’s degree in public relations, journalism, communications, public administration, or related field plus 4 years’ professional experience; or
Bachelor’s degree and 2 years’ professional public relations, journalism, communications, public administration, or related field; or
An equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience.

Additional Requirements

Possession and maintenance of a valid Florida Driver’s License.
Must be able to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, and conduct on-camera interviews.
Must be able to meet stringent production deadlines.
Must be able to assume on-call PIO duties and respond to emergency call-outs including Emergency Operations Center activation, should the need arise.
Must be able to support responsibilities for community outreach activities beyond regular county business hours including extended work days, evenings, weekends and holidays.
Must be able to professionally represent the organization at all times.
Assignment to work a variety of work schedules including compulsory work periods in special, emergency, and/or disaster situations.

Highly Desirable

Bilingual with demonstrated full fluency in written and spoken Spanish or Vietnamese.

The successful candidate will demonstrate self-motivation, initiative and attention to detail, and will be comfortable performing under stringent and dynamic deadlines. Spanish or Vietnamese fluency highly desired.
