Image Award: WEDU Sojourn 2008
WEDU Sojourn 2008 is an internationally-themed wine-paired dinner gala that features
the culture, cuisine, music, and wine indigenous to France. In addition, the
event celebrated the 50th Anniversary, the international programming featured
daily on WEDU-TV, and serves as a tool to attract new potential supporters to
Florida’s most watched public broadcasting station.

Komen Florida Suncoast Race for the Cure
The Komen Florida Suncoast Race for the Cure® is more than a race – it’s a
way to show support, celebrate survivors, enjoy team camaraderie, raise funds
and awareness, and remember those lost to breast cancer. In 2007, the whole
community participated through the most media coverage in nine years.

Award of Distinction: Tony Jannus Award Press Conference
The Tony Jannus Distinguished Aviation Society held a memorable press conference
in a vacant airline hangar in April 2007 to announce Colleen C. Barrett,
President and Corporate Secretary of Southwest Airlines, as the 2007 Tony
Jannus Award recipient and draw attention to its essay contest and scholarship
program.
Award of Distinction: Southwest Florida Water Management District SWIM
Program
The Surface Water Improvement and Management (SWIM) program at the Southwest
Florida Water Management District celebrated its 20th anniversary through a
series of educational programs. The events were held throughout the District
to showcase the success of the program, increase community awareness and recognize
partners and supporters of the program.
Award of Distinction: NOVA 535 Art Lounge Grand Opening
NOVA 535 Art Lounge celebrated its red carpet opening with more than 1,600
members of its target market, strong art sales and resonating media praise
for the business’s innovation and timeliness.
Award of Distinction: St. Pete Boat Show 30th Anniversary
What can you say about a Boat Show that’s been in the same town/same place
for 30 years? A lot! Alliance Communications was hired to promote the 30th
anniversary of the St. Petersburg Boat Show locally and nationally. As a
result, the St. Petersburg Boat show enjoyed the most local and national
coverage ever!

a track record in sound hiring and retention practices, including; diversity
hiring, training initiatives, advancement opportunities and efficient use

The WEDU Be More Inspired Televised Special was created as a result of the
WEDU Be More Awards™ program. This one-hour primetime special highlights the
good works and heroic efforts put forth by six non-profit organizations located
throughout West Central Florida.
