Keeping Communications Grounded When Everything Else is Up in the Air: An Inside Look at Public Information and Community Relations at the Tampa International Airport
Wednesday, February 17, 2010, 11:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Tampa International Airport, Boardroom

As professional communicators, we’re accustomed to multi-tasking and juggling two or three issues with another one up in the air. But when you’re Brenda S. Geoghagan, Director of Public Information and Community Relations at the Tampa International Airport, so much more is up in the air – literally!

With 30,000 people flying in and out of the Tampa International Airport daily, approximately 260 aircraft departures and over 30,000 bags being checked, staying on top of airport communications and public relations can feel like a juggling act. Not only that, but working in conjunction with the Transportation Security Administration on communicating heightened security measures, managing a customer base that tends to be frustrated with airport procedures all while responding to requests from local, national and international media can make for a hectic day.

But, it’s just the average day for Brenda and her communications staff.

Brenda is a lifelong native of Florida. She started working for the Aviation Authority in 1978 in an entry-level position, and in 1985 created the Authority’s Employee Relations position. In 1990, her position was reclassified and expanded to include public relations duties and in 1996 she was promoted to the Director of Public Information and Community Relations.

Come hear Brenda share her thoughts on effective communications strategies in the face of multiple, and often unanticipated issues that can have an impact on tens of thousands of people.

Meeting Location: This meeting will be held in the Tampa International Airport boardroom which is situated in the main terminal, third floor, blue side, behind the Armstrong elevators.

Parking: Please park in the short-term parking garage and bring your parking ticket so it can be validated during the meeting.
